The Fuse Festival Conference offers two days of insightful panel discussions and keynote speeches from some of the music industry’s leading professionals. Representatives from across the globe not only discuss the music industry’s most pressing topics, but also mingle with attendees at the conference networking events.

Alec Doomadgee
Alec started his career in radio after a visit to 4K1G in Townsville in 1988. This lead to Alec’s involvement in the B.R.A.C.S radio where he became an on-air announcer. He has been employed at Aboriginal station MOB fm, Koori Radio 93.7fm and Murri Country as the breakfast announcer, known on –air as “The Bushboy”. Alec is currently the Gadigal Music Label Manager and has an active role in the Indigenous Music scene.

Alicen Schneider
Alicen is the head of the creative music division for NBC Universal Television. In addition, she supervises select NBC Agency promotional campaigns, including all Olympics, and assists with strategic music partnerships for multi-platform marketing of shows. She operates as a music liaison between network and studio creative executives for stunt casting and on-camera opportunities. She also solicits the creation of original compositions and recordings for both promotional campaigns and episodic series.

Andrew Walker
Andrew is a music and arts business manager. His company Buxton Walker provides artist management and publicity services, and produces events. Buxton Walker co-owns record labels Jazzhead and Head Records, Buxstock Comedy Management and The Garden of Unearthly Delights. Andrew is Treasurer of The Assoc. of Independent Record Labels , Board Member Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival and Treasurer of Music Victoria.

Andy Cassell

Basil Cook
Basil has worked in the Australian music industry for a number of years with roles in various record labels including marketing, A&R and digital. He has also spent time as a performer and done a lot of development work with young bands. Basil is currently the Digital Music Manager at ABC Music (One of Australia’s largest independent record labels and part of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Becc Bates
Becc works at Arts SA, to deliver the Contemporary Music grant program and also works with organisations in the small to medium arts sector through the Arts organisations program. Assisting artists with business development and strategic planning. Becc is also a partner in Songfront, an artist management and consultancy business. Becc has managed Etypejazz since 2001, during which time she has negotiated international licensing deals and events.

Ben Kilsby
Ben Kilsby is the co-founder and CEO of Holopoint Interactive, an Adelaide tech company that designs, develops and deploys game-like 3D applications to web enabled devices. After leaving school far too early, Ben worked in the Australian Music Industry for the better part of 10 years working in artist management by day and production by night. He has toured Australia many times in various production roles.

Ben Strong
Ben Strong is a lawyer specialising in the music industry and the fields of media, intellectual property and commercial law. Ben has taught Music Industry Law and Media Law at Victoria University and provides ongoing legal training sessions to community radio broadcasters 3RRR and 3CR. Ben has also spent six years playing in bands in Australia and has a wealth of music industry experience.

Brett Cottle
Brett Cottle has been the Chief Executive of APRA since 1990 and of AMCOS since the two collecting societies merged. A lawyer, Brett is a former member of the Copyright Law Review Committee and former Director of the Copyright Society of Australia and the Australian Copyright Council. He is the longest-serving Director of the world-wide Confederation of Authors’ Societies (CISAC) the Board of which he chaired for 5 years until 2010.

Catherine Haridy
After working in A&R for both Festival Mushroom Records and Warner Music, Cath moved herself full-time into artist management. Her stable includes Eskimo Joe, Jebediah, Basement Birds, The Chemist, Steve Parkin and Bob Evans, along with music producers Gareth Parton, Jimi Maroudas, Steven Schram and Andy Lawson. Catherine currently holds the role of chairperson for the Association of Artist Managers, is an APRA Ambassador, CBF Board member and chair of AMGAC.

Christie Eleizer
Christie Eliezer is an Australian correspondent for international music magazines “Pollstar” and “Billboard”, Special Projects Editor for “Beat” Magazine in Melbourne, and syndicates a weekly music industry column through various street magazines and themusic.com.au which was acclaimed by UK trade publication “Music Week” as one of the Top 10 blogs in the world. He published his last book “High Voltage: 7 Movers And Shakers In The Australian Music Industry” four years ago.

Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson has worked in the music industry for over ten years as a sound engineer and new-media developer. Chris now manages the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project, a government funded initiative generating airplay opportunities for Australian music on community radio. Chris conceptuatlised Amrap’s AirIt – community radio’s Australian music catalogue – which is used by over 100 record labels and 1,000 unsigned artists to distribute and promote music to community radio nationwide.

Chris Wareing
Chris started his career promoting at Barfly Club in Liverpool. Working with and developing and established artists, Chris successfully programmed many tours. Chris has recently promoted genre crossing tours for artists from Wu-Tang Clan, The Game & Snoop Dogg to Fenech-Soler, And So I Watch You From Afar and many more. Chris works alongside Jon McIldowie on Festival bookings including The Great Escape.

Corey Denis
Corey works with Toolshed, the go-to company for Media, Tech, and Entertainment companies looking for online strategy services, online promotion, social network marketing, direct-to-fan marketing and campaign design, digital music service licensing. Toolshed has handled online audio and video marketing campaigns for artists as diverse as Kate Bush, Ani DiFranco, Martin Sexton, Peggy Sue, John Wesley Harding, Spoon, XTC, The Arcade Fire, Aimee Mann, Jeff Buckley, Sufjan Stevens.

Dan Monceaux
Dan Monceaux is the founder of Danimations, an Adelaide-based digital media company which specializes in producing online video for business. Also an independent artist and musician, Dan inhabits spaces of music, media and technology. Dan is a former State Editor of electronic music website inthemix.com.au and has toured North America twice with his audio-visual act, Supermarket.

Darren Sanicki
Darren Sanicki is principal of Sanicki Lawyers, a music & entertainment law firm based in Melbourne. The firm’s client base includes bands, recording artists, managers, composers, producers, indie labels, and music festivals. The firm specialises in negotiating and advising on all types of music related agreements, copyright law, trade-marks, dispute resolution. Darren is best known for penning the theme song to Channel 9’s The Footy Show, “It’s More Than a Game”.

David Vodicka
David Vodicka is the principal of entertainment law firm Media Arts Lawyers and has had extensive experience with over 20 years practice representing musicians, artists, performers, composers, recording, production, management and publishing entities. He has had considerable hands on experience in the music recording and publishing fields as director of Rubber Records. He is presently chairman of the board of AIR (the Australian Independent Record labels association).

Dom Alessio
Starting his working life as a lowly-paid (or never-paid) music journalist, Dom Alessio is now the host of triple j’s Australian music show Home & Hosed. As a writer he’s contributed to publications like Sydney’s The Sun Herald, esteemed music website Mess & Noise and many street press magazines. Dom’s also the proud owner of the Death Metal Ukulele.

Franz Schuller
Franz Schuller is head A&R and president of Indica-records in Montreal. Indica has worked with and developed young talent from both Canada (Priestess, Half Moon run,) and abroad (The Cat Empire, John Butler Trio, Kim Churchill, Gaslight Anthem) since 1997. As founding member of legendary alt-rock band GrimSkunk has been developing new acts and networking internationally for 20 years now.

Geoff Trio
Geoff Trio has been at the helm of Code One Entertainment with business partner Steve Griffiths for over a decade. Geoff has a started a business to include a touring agency for international and domestic artists, a development label and consultancy and in involved in several key festivals in NSW as well as Management of The Trews (CA) Matt Andersen (CA) Ray Beadle, The Lazys.

Gordon Anderson
Gordon is the Industry Development Officer at Music SA. He works to build the South Australian contemporary music sector’s profile and networks; advising musicians on securing resources, marketing and distribution strategies, promotion, business management and touring. Gordon is currently delivering Bands On Track – A showcase of SA music for the 2012 Adelaide Clipsal 500. He also manages the independent Australian rock band Mere Theory.

Greg Carey
Greg is co-director of Music company Umbrella, predominately an artist management company looking after the careers of great Australian bands, Belles Will Ring, Cloud Control, Fishing & Urthboy, producer, Liam Judson and songwriters Cain Horton & Paul Kingston. What was then a glorified hobby 5 years ago is now a full-time international business and an everyday high 5.

Greg Marsh
Greg is the in-house lawyer at the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC). Greg is responsible for providing legal and business affairs advice and support across the SAFC and for managing the contracting processes in relation to the SAFC’s development and production investments, cash flow loans and other incentives. Prior to this Greg spent ten years at EMI Records in London working in business affairs, licensing and synch.

Heath Bradby
Heath Bradby is a band manager with 18 years experience in the industry. Heath’s time these days is split between his role as MD of management company The Fidelity Corporation and his other hat which is Head of A&R for Warner Music Australia. Fidelity represents acts such as Karnivool, Snowman, Downsyde, Drapht, and Papa vs Pretty.

Heidi Angove
As Internode’s Content Manager, Heidi manages the rich array of operational and innovative Internode content. This includes streaming live gigs, over 140 internet radio streams, unmetered content (including iview), one of the largest gaming portals in Australia and Internode’s fetchTV IPTV product.

Ifan Thomas
Pick an international act of the last two decades and you can be safe that Ifan Lamb-Thomas has probably worked with them both here and across the globe. With a history of artist management, production and touring, he’s been there, done that. Ifan has produced tours for Powderfinger, Moby, Bloodhound Gang and wrangled the hectic life of Blur. He has been sought after by festivals such as Laneways, Gorgeous and projects in the US.

Jasmine Kirkwood
Jasmine Kirkwood is currently Synchronisation Manager for Kobalt Music Publishing Australia. In her role, Jasmine is a key part of the creative team for KMPA, working closely with advertising agencies, film, TV and music supervisors to secure synch opportunities and build creative partnerships with Kobalt’s extensive local and international roster, which include Emma-Louise, Bluejuice, Icehouse, Neil Finn, Art Vs Science, Nine Inch Nails, Bjork, The Hives.

Jen Cloher
Jen is a self-managed independent artist based in Melbourne. After graduating from acting at NIDA she decided to pursue a career in music. Her first album Dead Wood Falls was nominated for an ARIA for Best Female Artist and her second album Hidden Hands gained many nomination and awards. In 2011 Cloher launched a new series of workshops called ‘I Manage My Music’ specifically tailored to assist the self-managed artist.

Jess Beston
Jess manages The Trouble With Templeton and is founder of unique, boutique music business, Tiny Monster. Tiny Monster specialises in A&R Consulting, Artist Mentoring and Creative Services. She has written & played in several indie rock bands, and has 10 years label experience, first in Licensing, Press & PR at EMI, then as A&R Manager at Universal. Jess signed Children Collide, Gyroscope & The Naked & Famous (for Aus).

Johanna Greenway
Johanna has spent the last six years working at Big Day Out – Australia and NZ’s longest running music festival with previous headliners including Nirvana, Muse, The Stooges, The White Stripes, Ramones, Rammstein, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Beastie Boys, Tool, Neil Young and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Johanna currently works on Talent, Marketing, New Media and Event Management.

John Welsh:
With a history that includes “blowing things up!” John Welsh is owner of the serious games consultancy. He is passionate about experiential learning and continues to be instrumental in defining serious game solutions nationally and internationally, spearheading serious game initiatives and providing consultancy, subject matter expertise and turnkey solutions to a number of industries. Jamaican-born he has innate musical roots, believing that interactivity in music provides significant opportunity.

Jordan Verzar
Jordan runs the touring and management agency Top Shelf. Top Shelf currently represents a diverse roster of local and international music with a focus on acoustic, fusion, world music and live electronica. He represents Jeff Lang, FourPlay String Quartet, The Circle of Rhythm and many more. Jordan holds the role of musical director of TED X Sydney, the Australian branch of the global ideas and entertainment forum.

Keith Welsh
Keith is a former member of the AMCOS board, and currently sits on the Board of MusicNSW and manages the musical interests of his long-time friend Iva Davies / Icehouse, which provides consultancy services to a range of music industry organizations, remains committed to seeing Australian artists export their music to foreign markets, and indulges his passion for vintage instruments by coordinating a guitar amplifier restoration business.

Leanne DeSouza
In 2012 Leanne is busy managing the emerging North Queensland indie rock band The Medics , is a project officer with the boutique consultancy Fieldworx, a board member of Q Music and the Queensland Music Festival. Working in artist management since 1997 Leanne has represented Kate Miller-Heidke, Stringmansassy, george, Katie Noonan, Misinterprotato, Transport and Miles From Nowhere. Leanne is also a previous Executive Programmer of BIGSOUND (2006).

Maria Amato
Maria Amato is an accounting professional with over 20 years experience in the entertainment industry. Maria is the principal of Results Management, a company she setup in 1994 to provide CFO consultancy services to a broad range of clients. Her current clients include:- AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association), MIFF (Melbourne International Film Festival), Media Arts Lawyers, Rubber Music, Outpost Management and Level Two Music.

Marianna Annas
An experienced music lawyer, has also held senior legal and business affairs roles at BMG Australia and BMG Music Publishing, SonyBMG Entertainment in New York, and EMI Music Australia. She is currently manager of ABC Music Publishing and a Director of the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS) and the Australasian Music Publishers Association (AMPAL). She loves great songwriting.

Mark Bin Bakar
Mark Bin Bakar is a major contributor to the Kimberley, Western Australia and Australia through the Arts and Media. As a live performer Mark has a state and national profile through his character Mary G. Mark has worked as a television presenter, a writer, director and producer of film and video and has won a number of awards. Mark also established the nationally acclaimed Stompem Ground Festival.

Michael Hutchings
Michael Hutchings is the APRA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) National Representative. His role is to represent and advocate for APRA|AMCOS’s ATSI members and the ATSI music industry. Michael has worked across the full spectrum of the Australian music industry, including label and studio manager at Gadigal Music, Indigenous Music Manager for Music NSW and event and concert producer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural events.

Michael Parisi
Michael Parisi has been in the music industry for 25 years. He began his career in promotions for Warner Music and in the mid 90’s, he became A&R manager, signing and guiding the careers of artist like Regurgitator, The Superjesus and The Whitlams. Michael started his own label Sputnik Records in 2000, his first signing an unknown UK act called MUSE. In 2009, Michael founded Michael Parisi Management and WUNDERKIND.

Michael Szumowski
Head of Creative Development at Alberts. One of Australia’s most successful writer/producers, has worked with many local and international artists and songwriters from a range of musical genres. Over the last two decades he has skilfully written and produced songs by artists here in Australia and other territories such as Germany, France, Spain and Japan.

Millie Millgate
In 2009, Millie was appointed Export Music Producer, Sounds Australia. The role, jointly funded between industry (APRA|AMCOS) and the government overseas the management and implementation of SOUNDS AUSTRALIA – the national export platform specifically developed for the contemporary Australian music industry’s representation at key music markets, promoting Australian musical repertoire to the world at events such as MIDEM, SXSW, The Great Escape, CMJ Music Marathon.

Nick O’Byrne
As the GM of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), it’s Nick’s job to help indie labels and artists run their businesses through training, advocacy, professional development and promotion of the Australian independent sector. Nick is also a co-ordinator of The Key Of Sea, collaborations between Australian artists and refugee musicians. He was a founding board member of Music Victoria and a member of the Music Council of Australia.

PJ Murton
Adelaide based ARIA Award nominated Music DVD Producer/Director, also responsible for multiple Gold & Platinum Albums, DVD’s & ARIA Awards. (& former management for Hilltop Hoods). Management Consultant & Photographer with over 10 years professional experience, offering straight forward industry advice with no strings attached! PJ is also on the MusicSA Board of Directors & currently Manages the Northern Sound System.

Phillip Mortlock
Head Of Creative @ Alberts. Board with AIR. Formerly Board with ARIA. Board with National Film & Sound Archive (NFSA) Seemingly endless involvement in Australian music & artists – originally working with major label (Warners) and more recently indie sector (ORiGiN & now Alberts).

Rhoda Roberts
Rhonda is currently the Artistic Director of Message Sticks Festival for the Sydney Opera House and Festival Director and producer for the Boomerang Festival and Desert Dreaming. An ambassador for Vibe Australia and the host of the national weekly program Deadly Sounds. Rhoda’s the founder and was the Artistic Director of the annual International festival The Dreaming (1995-2009) and Creative Director, Sydney New Year’s Eve, 2009-2011.

Rob Scott
Rob Scott worked for 15 years at triple j, leaving ABC to set up music publisher and label Source Music in 2009. Source has released Abbe May, Jen Cloher, The Paper Scissors and supergroup Folk Uke and publishes the labels Warp, Vitamin and Indica Australia. Rob also moonlights as a music supervisor, currently working on Aussie film Not Suitable For Children starring Ryan Kwanten. He is music obsessed.

Ross Osmon
Ross is one of the managing directors at 5/4 Entertainment an Adelaide based company which works in all areas of the live music scene. 5/4 Ent. runs a variety or local club/band nights at various venues around Adelaide and tours bands on a local, national and international level. 5/4 Ent. also manages a roster of Adelaide based acts and books the live music venue The Ed Castle.

Ryan Winter
Ryan held the role of Music Editor of dB Magazine for close to 2 years and is currently the SA Editorial Coordinator for FasterLouder. Previously, he’s worked as part of the West End Music Festival 2008 and Australian Festival Awards 2009, as well as producing the Mango Tree Music Festival in 2009 . He was recently appointed the Music Resources Coordinator at Radio Adelaide.

Scot Crawford
Scot Crawford has over 20 years experience in entertainment marketing. He holds a B.A in both Media and Cinema studies, as well as a Graduated Diploma in Business Marketing. Scot has worked across the film, music and sports sectors, holding Product Management, Strategic Marketing and Business Development positions. His work has included managing product and brand assets for high profile Australian and international entertainment and sports organisations.

Scotty McKenzie
Scotty has been working at Premier Artists for ten years and has been involved in each area of the business including accounts, tour logistics & national promotions & of course national booking agent which is his current role. His current national artist roster includes Clare Bowditch, Airbourne, Jebediah, Adalita, Lowrider, Funkoars, 28 Days, You am I, The Getaway Plan and The Amity Affliction, to name a few.’

Stephen Wade
Stephen Wade is a booking agent and CEO of Select Music / Touring, representing a diverse range of acts including Boy & Bear, Josh Pyke, Tim Finn. He has been in the industry for 20 years and has seen Select grow into one of the country’s top agencies. He is a part of the label Stop Start.

Stu Watters
Stuart Watters has been working in the music industry for over 15 years. His previous roles and experience vary broadly from being the CEO of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), running the Queensland Music Network (Q Music), serving on the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN) He currently runs his own Film Production, Publishing, Music Services and Consulting Company, Morph TV.

Tom Harris
Tom entered the Australian Music Industry in 2003 at Rubber Records. Working under the name White Sky, the business quickly grew and is now the largest music business management company in Australia. Between 2006 and 2011, with friend Danny Rogers, Tom managed The Temper Trap from humble beginnings. Managing folk-pop band The Little Stevies since Tom has overseen the recording and release of their album.

Vicki Gordon
Vicki Gordon Management specialises in developing Australian Independent Artists and been integral to the success of Vanessa Amorosi & Sick Puppies to name a few. As an ARIA Board Director, representing the Independents, Vicki initiated the NA2R (New Artists 2 Radio) to encourage more support for Australian artists on commercial radio. Vicki is the Founding President of CICADA International Inc. assisting emerging Indigenous artists to break into the mainstream.
